Any woman in a leadership role understands the unique challenges that we women leaders face in today’s fiercely competitive business world. But if you take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come – and where we stand today – it may give you a boost of confidence and a radiant glow of pride!
Women As Economic Leaders
Women control nearly 60% of wealth in the United States, and the number of wealthy women in this country is growing twice as fast as the number of wealthy men.
Have you heard it said that women cannot lead? Tell that to the 60% of high net wealth women in America who earned their own fortunes.
A Barclay’s Wealth Study revealed that women in the USA give an average of 3.5% of their wealth to charity. Men, by contrast, donate a relatively skimpy 1.8%.
That’s happening even though women are typically paid only 78 cents for doing exactly the same job that their male counterparts can earn a dollar doing. (Ouch!)
Not Just Older Women Are Leading the Way
We always hear Millennials described as “overachievers who are totally absorbed in technology and social media and constantly demand that people notice them and give them tons of recognition.”
Yeah, well so what? Doesn’t that also describe exactly the kind of leadership that today’s corporations so desperately want and need? What Fortune 500 wouldn’t jump at the chance to hire a woman leader who is tech-savvy, has a dynamic grasp of social media branding and communication, and is highly motivated to fearlessly step into the spotlight have her ideas listened to, paid attention to, and implemented?
Despite all the naysayers, the up-and-coming generation has consistently managed to collaborate, innovate, motivate, elevate, and accelerate. Is that not the textbook definition of the ideal leader?
Millennial Women Leaders in Business
Did you know, for example, that in 2011 – while American enterprises were going out of business left and right and unemployment among new graduates saddled with tuition debt skyrocketed, members of the Millennial generation launched almost 160,000 startups per month? Plus nearly 30% of all entrepreneurs in the USA are under the age of 35.
So, welcome to the new world order, where women leaders are changing the way we do business while creating significant paradigm shifts across society and the economy.
