Oct 08 The New Sweater Dress
The new sweater dress is one of this season’s hottest trends for younger women. It is not reminicent of those you saw in your mom’s college yearbook, but a fresh perspective on the knit dress. This fall the dresses are adorned with great details like higher hemlines, lantern sleeves (which I love), cable twists, black piping, keyhole necklines and crocheted stitching on the dress and sleeve hems. Many of these styles come in A-line silhouettes which can be worn by most figure types. Depending on the size of your figure, if you are thin select the large cabled knits which will add some bulk to your frame. On the other hand, if you are very curvacous or a larger frame, find one in a tight knit that gracefully grazes your body silhouette. You want to be sure this type of dress is not too small and tight or it will show every imperfection. When I was in Chicago last week, this was the look every young woman was wearing. Most of the dresses were in a dark neutral like black, or charcoal gray and worn with great black tights and black shoe booties and looked very chic. I know I will try to find one that works with my body type and has an A-line cut so as not to cling to my figure and wear it with dark tights and a shoe bootie. If you decide on a lighter color in a shorter length, you could also wear it with bare legs and either metallic or patent leather peep toe pumps or a knee length boot. I think it is worth exploring this new dress if you are young, to see if you find one that you love to take you into fall and winter.
